I was 39 when it began.
42 when I understood why.
I'm Dr Chinelo, a physician and a mother of three. My perimenopause symptoms started when I was 39. I didn't recognise them for what they were until I was 42, when I started hormone replacement therapy (HRT). I'm still on HRT today.
Poor sleep. Fatigue. Brain fog. Mood changes. A body that no longer felt familiar. I knew something had changed, but I didn't have the full picture.
Even as a doctor, it took me years to connect the dots.
That experience changed the way I think about women's health. If I could miss what was happening in my own body, how many other women were going through the same thing without an explanation?
My weight journey is personal, too.
I've also lived with weight gain and metabolic health challenges, including prediabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I've used GLP-1 medication as part of my own weight-management journey since 2024.
I understand the questions that come with treatment: Will it work for me? What about side effects? What do I eat? And how do I keep the weight off?
My experience helps me understand yours. Your care still starts with your own history, symptoms and goals, because the right treatment is different for each person.
The care I wanted.
The care I want you to have.
I created hormones.ng so people in Nigeria could have private, honest conversations about their health and get clear answers without feeling rushed or judged.
Whether you're struggling with weight, navigating perimenopause, worried about your blood sugar, or asking a question about your sexual health, I want you to feel comfortable saying what's really going on. Women and men are welcome here.
My approach is to listen, review your medical history and the results you share, and look at the pattern over time. Then we talk through what those findings mean and the options that fit your life.
You deserve to understand your body, your treatment and your next step.
